Laconia is situated in the New Hampshire Lake region and is positioned adjacent to Lake Winnipesaukee, the state's largest body of water. One of the more unique events in Laconia is the Motorcycle Week, which has been celebrated for over 80 years. Occurring every June, this event brings thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the United States to Laconia in order to celebrate these two-wheeled vehicles. Gunstock Ski Hill, which is located in Gilford, just east of Laconia, also draws many visitors to the area. This ski hill offers skiing and snowboarding in the winter and hiking and biking in the summer. For the curious, Belknap Mill, the oldest unaltered textile mill in the United States, also resides in Laconia, and visitors can tour the site and learn about the area history.
